Growth in empty containers for the port of Rotterdam

Port of Rotterdam 4FOLD Foldable ContainerThe Rotterdam Port Authority showed their facts and figures of 2017. The main conclusion, growth in container throughput! In general, the container throughput rose spectacularly by 10.9% to 13.7 million TEU (twenty feet equivalent unit). However, the number of empty containers rose by 6.1% to more than 2.5 million TEU.

There has been steady growth over the past five half years. Most growth was seen for Asia and South America and traffic from North America. Feeder volume, in particular, grew strongly (21% in TEU) for all European shipping areas and in particular Scandinavia and the Baltic states.  The hinterland volume also rose (6.3%). This growth and the increase in feeder volume confirm the strong position of Rotterdam in the networks of container shipping companies and major alliances.

The Rotterdam Port Authority supports the goal stated in the Dutch coalition agreement to reduce CO2 emissions to 49% of the 1990 level by 2030. Combined with the increase of empty containers and the rise in hinterland volume, 4FOLD Foldable Containers are the perfect solution to achieve this goal!
